Week 1
Introduction to the Bible:
What are secret societies?
Are the stories of Genesis proof that the Israelites could trace their ancestry back to the creation of the first man?
Week 2
Did Moses exist? What did he really say and do? We will look at the story of the Exodus and analyze why his story is the foundation for the religions spawned by the Bible (Judaism and Christianity).
Week 3
Did the Israelites really invade Canaan and slaughter hundreds of thousands of natives to steal their property? And why was this a good thing?
Week 4
Who were the “Judges” and why were they so important? Why are the stories of feuding kings included in the Bible? Were they all especially holy men?
Week 5
Who were the “prophets”? What did they predict and why is it important to so many people? Does the Bible offer spiritual guidance to people? Can we find spirituality among the wars and rabid racism of the Bible? Or is it all just a method for controlling the thoughts and actions of its followers?
Week 6
Why do the Israelites call themselves a “Chosen People” above all other peoples? Were they really entitled to this position? How do they justify this? Conclusion and summary of the classes.
Second Semester
