PRESENT: Alan (facilitator), Asher, Chris, Christopher, Darren, Eric, Frank, John, Luke, Marc, Paul, Pollie, Possum, Rachel, Rob, Taylor, Terence, Sonja, Shawn, Todd, Tim (minutes). Pre-meeting cameo: Randolph & friend.
CLASS CHECK-INS:
* Alan's Radical Perspectives on Mass Media class has about 12 registrants. Mention in NOW's New Year's Resolutions supplement seems to have generated 3 or 4 inquiries. Class starts Mon Jan 16 7-9 at Alan's (457 Bathurst St S of College).
* Eric's Shamanism & Psychoanalysis: Means for Self-Empowerment vis-a-vis Society has had about 14 inquiries. Alan agreed to lend his space Thursdays at 8 starting the 19th.
* Asher's Radical Perspectives on Economics class has had 10 inquiries. Uprising Thursdays 7-9 starting the 19th.
* Christopher's Judo class will be Fridays only (Sundays may be added later), starting this week (the 13th). There are about 13 people enrolled. Fri 6:30-8:30, 275 Augusta.
* Randolph's Secret History of the World class has had about 15 inquiries. He would like to move it to 7 pm, but the first class will start at 6 as originally scheduled. Tuesdays at Alan's, starting the 17th. [UPDATE: Will stick to 6-8.]
* Paul's Film/Video Workshop was formally approved. He's had about 16 inquiries but class size will ideally be 8-12. Wed 7-9 (doors 6:45) at Cinecycle (129 Spadina s of Richmond, down the laneway), starting the 18th.
* Darren's Writing Workshop has had about 11 inquiries. It will be held at Darren's Sunday mornings at 11:30.
* Pollie proposed & we approved a Spanish Conversation class. Marc offered his basement Tuesday nights at 7, starting the 17th. [UPDATE: Will move Alan's 8-10.]
SPECIAL PROPOSALS:
* Todd wants to bring anarchist academic Richard Day to Toronto to do a weekend intensive on his new book Gramsci's Dead. We agreed to consider fundraising to offset Richard's travel expenses. Todd will work with Asher, Christopher, Possum & Rob to bring a more developed proposal to our next meeting.
* Alan would like to organize a Saturday workshop on DIY business. Again, we will discuss a more detailed proposal next meeting.
* Chris is throwing Uprising fundraisers to help bring anarcho-primitivist writer Derrick Jensen to town. This could be done in conjunction with the AFU. Chris' first fundraiser will be an open mic at Uprising Fri Jan 27. Asher & Christopher will work with Chris & bring tha update next meeting.
* Shawn mentioned his idea for a Direct Action Scouts program. How this might work with the AFU will be discussed at the next Robin Hood Collective meeting.
OUTREACH/PROMO:
* Asher, Chris, Pollie & Tim will go postering Tuesday night (meeting at 540 Spadina n College main floor around 10).
* Asher needs facilitators to submit synopses of their courses short enough to fit in a calendar flyer.
