Minutes from 2006 Dec 3
Attendees
Dave, Mike (facilitator), Rob, Nick, Eric, Jason, Jon, Tim, Chris S,
Possum (minutes)
Message Board
The
AnarchistU message board has not been payed attention for a while,
and currently primarily contains spam messages. It is going to be
fixed up, and given an official URL (perhaps forum.anarchistu.org).
Website
Mike has some ideas to improve the
AnarchistU-website's visual
appearance and usability. He suggested discussing his ideas with
Possum. Possum promised to add him to the web-committee administration mailing list.
Miscellaneous
Chris says Ryan's film class is coming along. Co-facilitator Ashar
is likely to not be involved.
Class proposals
Chris proposed a class called the Politics of Addiction, which was
approved. It was recommended that he try to ensure the class is
accessible to non-academics. Chris ensured he had this in mind.
Eric talked of a class he wanted to propose on mysticism. Concerns
were expressed that it had a New Age slant, and shared with other New
Age classes a bias toward neo-liberal society and white, middle class
culture. It was recommended that Eric incorporate some
anti-oppression ideas into his outline, which will be presented at the
next meeting.
Dave also briefly discussed a course-idea which he will propose at the next meeting.
Future Meeting times
The third Sunday of every month was agreed upon as a fixed general
meeting time, starting with February 21. For now at least those
meetings will be held at 519 Church from 3:00 to 5:00.
Upcoming "Emergency" Meeting
There are many pending issues the group did not get a chance to
discuss, including:
- promotion
- ad hoc list
- accessibility issues
- meeting times
- TAR (Anarchist conference in Toronto)
- end-of-term party
- U of T group status
- AnarchistU Mailing lists
Thus, it was agreed upon to have an "emergency" meeting on Sunday Dec
17 to discuss these issues. Additionally, we will discuss Eric's
class proposal, and Dave's class proposal.
