1. Summer Courses

Term 1 (3 May) Course on elites is taking place at the Animal Alliance (Broadview and Dundas)

Term 2 (5 July) Course on utopian literature with Kathleen needs space Course on queer history with Dwayne also needs space. Dwayne will co-ordinate a search for spaces e.g. The Meeting Place (contact HR) or Free University of Toronto (contact Amish).

2. Buffalo conference. Alan and Possum gave a presentation on the Free University at a conference on collaborative art and media. They discussed the structure of our courses and got some interesting feedback. At least some people consider our approach very structured. This is perhaps something we might discuss at the week-end retreat later in the summer. We also visited Access community centre in Buffalo.

3. Course proposals for Fall 2004

Chris Smith presented a course on the avant-garde that covers Futurism, Surrealism, Lettrism, Situationism, and contemporary movements such as Take Back the Streets. The course is the result of experience with two courses this year. Course accepted. We suggested a title change to something like “Politics and Poetics in the Street: The European Avant-Garde” and also contacting local people doing similar work for the last week or two.

Amish intends to present a course for Fall.

4. Week-end retreat. 30 July-2 Aug at Dragonfly

(a) What is going to happen? Workshops? Discussions on topics such as the philosophy of the Free School.

(b) Logistics. Set up listserve immediately. Ask for firm commitments (I’m coming, I have a car, I’d like to do a workshop, etc) Food, transport, tents, meals, cost (sliding scale?) Dwayne will phone the Magic Bus Possum will book the Catholic Worker’s van

(b) The week-end is mainly for the Anarchist U network. However we will invite some participants such as Access center (Buffalo) Traingle Trash, Ass Pirates Montreal Bookfair collective (perhaps for a workshop or two)
