1. Alan reported that we have a whole $7.00 in our school account after our recent party/fundraising effort.
2. Course proposals. Chris B. proposed his course on the History of the Ruling Elites. This will be a broad historical survey from ancient times till today. It will mostly be website-based readings which helps cut down on paper waste and money for photocopying. Course will be held in public parks in Toronto with alternate space his own house if it should rain. The group approved Chris' course. It will start on WEDNESDAY MAY 5 AT 6PM. LOCATION TBA.
Kathleen proposed a course that would examine what constitutes "visions of progress" -- how it is conceptualized and how to define it and to explore alternate visions using examples primarily from literature. This course was approved by the collective with the minor suggestion to rework the description in order to punch it up a little. This course will be offered starting in JULY 8, 2004 (Thursdays 7-9pm)
Dwayne's queer history course will also be offered again starting in JULY 2004 on Tuesday nights 7-9pm.
Andrej proposed offering his course on Chaos Theory again with the emphasis taken off the mathematics and on the philosophical aspects of the course due to feedback from the last course.
Rob announced that he will not be directly offering his course on Radical Perspectives on Sexuality this Fall but that if there are others who might be interested in picking it up and continuing it as is or with changes then that would be heartily welcomed.
3. Possum and Rob were to give a workshop at the Montreal Bookfair although our proposal was turned down by the Montreal collective.
Alan announced that he is going to be going to Detroit to participate in a workshop session entitled, "Alternative Education" as part of an art and participation conference/symposium being held.
4. Retreat. Possum reported back on the Dragonfly retreat. They will be able to accomodate us over the long weekend to end of JULY. The Dragonfly is an intentional anarchist commune about 3-4 hours away from Toronto (north of Peterborough). We discussed the idea of having small informal workshops on various topics over the time we were there. Some suggestions for workshops offered were: Ann Hansen talk, animal rights, visions of the future of anarchist u, social ecology, green anarchy, 16mm filmmaking, queer history, etc. Possum will set us a mailing list of people who want to be involved in planning the retreat. Main things to do include: a) Transportation, b) food provision incuding vegan fare and c) activities & workshops, etc.
5. Promotion. We disussed the need to keep promoting the school and will redouble our efforts to distribute flyers. New flyer out by May 1st.
