Anarchist Free University Course Facilitator's Meeting 14 Sept 2003
Luis, Alan, Chris, Brian, Rob, Sam, Mohammed
The main purpose of this meeting was to discuss strategies of teaching in a participatory way, what we might do for the first meeting of each course, and strategies for responding to difficult situations in the classroom. We all intend to have a go-around with introductions. We all will explain briefly the idea of the Anarchist University and encourage participants to come to general meetings of the school where decisions are taken. We will explain the course we have prepared and welcome discussion, changes and additions. It may not be possible to include all new ideas-that might be another course in the future.
We briefly discussed some general items.
The next general meeting of the
AnarchistU is on Sunday 12 October, probably at 3pm. Chris will ask This Ain't The Rosedale Library, since 196 Manning will probably be too small. People need to be aware that it is up a flight of stairs. Luis will facilitate and we will look for a woman to co-facilitate. Agenda items may include:
(1) Fundraising (perhaps including the issue of small fees for courses) (2) Courses for January (including continuing course from the Fall). The second term will be from 12 January - 28 March With a reading break the week of 16 February (3) Policy for using the e-mail list (4) End of term party or event (could be a fund-raiser)
Three classes are too large for 196 Manning. Chris has already moved to This Ain't The Rosedale Library. Rob and Luis may move to the Queen Street Community centre. Chris and Luis to look into it this week.
The Fall reading break is up to facilitators. Alan is taking it the week of 20 October.
Chris will take over answering the Yahoo e-mail address for the next three months. We'll continue to rotate this job in this way. People who enrolled directly with course facilitators are not on the general mailing list! Some facilitators prefer this direct contact. Other prefer the initial approach to be done through the school's e-mail address.
Toronto Star. We will respond to the reporter. Luis, Rob & Chris will speak for the school. (This does not mean we agree to respond to future approaches from newspapers such as The National Post or The Globe & Mail).
In the unlikely event of any public controversy about the content of
AnarchistU courses, we will immediately meet and decide on a response.
