Minutes for meeting August 12, 2003

PRESENT: Alan, Brian, Luis, Mohammed AGENDA: website; timetable; promotion-NOW Magazine, etc; launch

1. WEBSITE

• should we have links to instructors’ email addresses on the web site? we agreed this would be a good idea, but would leave it up to each instructor to do this if they wished
• should we add colours to the website design? Brian was particularly interested in this idea, and he will talk to Erik to see how to do this
• Luis will update the blurb, based on the previous meeting’s discussion
• Alan added a page to the web site with a list of books in the AnarchistU library. This was okayed by the group. We have a small bookshelf of books belonging to the AnarchistU itself!

2. TIMETABLE

this is tentative info, to be confirmed at next meeting:

• Alan - Mondays 7-9pm (or 6-8pm to allow for a second Monday class at his place at 8-10pm)
• Luis - Mondays? 6-8pm (maybe at Art Metropole?)
• Rob - starting week of September 22nd
• Brian - Wedensdays 6-8pm

We will need to finalize the schedule at the next meeting in order to have the flier ready for the following meeting! Luis will contact Chris and Sam to get the dates/times they are interested in.

3.PROMOTION

• we agreed with having rotating roles for spokespersons that will be media contacts
• we also agreed to talk to Dave at NOW Magazine, who is interested in writing an article about the AnarchistU
• Alan, Brian and Mohammed mentioned they do not want to be spokespersons at this point
• we agreed that it’d be best if two people would speak with Dave - Luis volunteered, and Erik did too when he arrived after the meeting
• Luis will contact Helena/Clifford, Sam, Rob and Chris to see if they are interested in volunteering for this
• Brian wants to help Luis design the next flier, which will be the course calendar

4.LAUNCH

• launch will be on Sunday eptember 7th, starting at 3pm (classes begin on the week of the 15th)
• we need to hear form Sam about question of getting permits from Parks&Rec
• we should talk about a back-up plan in case of rain!!
• Brian was interested in having some kind of live music of other performance at the event (maybe the Urban disco Trailer?) We will discuss this at next meeting

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, August 19 at Alan’s - 5pm potluck, 6pm meeting
