It Yourself – Salvage Carpentry for Beginners
This is a course for anyone who has
seen discarded wood and wanted to make something out of it, but
didn’t know how to get started. Everyone can make the things they
need from scratch with a bit of confidence, practice and know-how.
We will hone sawing and hammering
skills and study some math you can really use. We will evaluate and
take apart salvaged items for recycling. You will also be able to
walk into a lumberyard and know what you’re talking about. Discover
the satisfaction of installing your own custom-made shelves. Know how
to buy hand and power tools at garage sales and use them safely when
you get home. Understand what keeps simple structures standing
upright. More topics and skills can be chosen based on the interests
of the group.
The class will run for four weeks in a
garage-type space near Harbord and Grace, on the following Saturday
afternoons:
October 25 Noon-4:30
November 1 Noon-4:30
November 8 Noon-4:30
November 15 Noon-4:30
Sign up now, space is limited.
Participants will be required to bring their own hand tools, about
$30-$40 total if buying new. If you are unable to get tools let me
know. Contact Craig (
